Calling all 8 and Unders (Swim Team Prep)

Summer Swim Team is a great way to improve your swimming skills, meet friends, and get to know other families in the neighborhood. We have a lot of fun things planned this summer including an expanded Wee Wahoo Program and fun social events like Pep Rallies and Movie Nights at the Pool. If you do not know anything about Swim Team, don’t worry, we will have several intro events in May to answer all your questions. You can also email us at [email protected]. We average 35-50 Swimmers under Age 8 a Season (our full team has 240 Swimmers). Many kids start Swim team at a young age and participate year after year for the Social and Competitive fun it brings.

We have 2 programs for Children 8 and Under:

1) Wee Wahoos/ Pre-Teamis a developmental program for younger swimmers who want to be team members but are not ready for regular team practices or meets.

a. Ages 4 to 8.

b. Pre-team members must be able to swim a 1/2 length of the pool without assistance or touching solid surfaces of the pool. The Pre-team is not a substitute for beginning swim lessons.

c. The coaching staff will evaluate the potential Wee Wahoos in early June for basic skills before they are allowed to participate.

d. Wee Wahoos also participate in kickboard races at our Wednesday B meets and some races at Coach’s discretion if their strokes are close to legal.

e. Our Wee Wahoos have the option to practice every weekday during the Swim Team Season.

2) “8 and Unders” Team

a. Can Swim at Least 1 of 4 strokes Legally. Swim Team Practice will help children work towards being legal in all 4 strokes.

b. Children on the “8 and Under” Team can swim in “6 and under” and “ 8 and Under” Races on Wednesday nights and can qualify to swim at our A Meets on Saturday mornings.

c. Our “8 and Unders” have practice every weekday during the Swim Team Season

The Swim Team Board will send out a registration link in March to sign up for Summer Swim Team (via the Vistas and Woodcliffe distribution lists).

In the meantime, here are some local offerings that will help your little Wahoos get ready for the Summer Swim Season. Aside from Swim Team, early Swim Classes are also great way to expose young swimmers to water safety.
