Swimming, especially
summer swimming, is a parent intensive sport. Without a great
amount of work by the parents of the Wahoos swimmers, there would
not be a Woodcliffe Wahoos Swim Team. In order to make the summer
swim team a safe, fun filled activity, we need as much parental
involvement as possible. There are several opportunities for
parents to get involved. Please support your swimmer(s) and
volunteer!
Stroke and Turn Judge: (At least 2
needed at each swim meet)
- Training through MCSL required.

Announcer/Starter: (One needed at
each swim meet)
- Training through MCSL required.
Please see the MCSL website.
- Welcomes the visitors.
- Starts warm-ups
- Call swimmers to the clerk of
course
- Announces the events
- Makes any other general
announcements, including the score, team records, records, All-Star
qualifying times
- Sounding the airhorn to start
each race
Clerk of Course / Assistant Clerk of Course: (One Clerk and 2-3 Assistants needed at each swim
meet)
- Works with the announcer to
control flow of kids to Clerk’s table
- Checks in the swimmers and tells
them their lanes
- Tells the swimmers where to wait
for their events
- Participates in the
“scratch meeting” to make substitutions
Computer Operator: (One to two needed for
each swim meet)
- Training through MCSL required.

- Inputting the meet line-up before
the meet
- Inputting swimmers times during
the meets
- Learn “Meet Manager”
software
- Makes the changes from the
scratch meeting
- Prints copies of the meets
results
- Produces disks for both teams and
the League.
Ribbon Writers: (One needed at each swim
meet)
- Check to see if the winning time
is a team, pool or League record
- Affix the ribbon labels to the
ribbons
- File the ribbons in the team
folders.
- Two Ribbon Writers per meet are
needed
Head Timer: (One needed at each
meet)
- Time each race in case another
timer needs back-up
- Collects the cards from the
timers
- Verifies that the times are close
“within reason”
- Verifies that all times are
legible, e.g. that a 4 does not look like a 9.
- Circles the official time
Timers:
- Times the race, starting as
instructed by the starter and stopping the watch when any part of
the swimmer (or kickboard) touches the wall. TIMERS WILL GET
WET.
- 9-10 timers are needed per
meet.
Runner: (Two needed at each
meet)
- Takes the timer sheets from the
Head Timer and takes them with the DQ cards to the scoring
table.
Concessions:
- Purchasing food and beverages for
the concession stand (you will be reimbursed by the team for
concession expenses)
- Getting food/beverage to the meet
(home meets only) and setting up
- Working the concession stand at
home meets
- Assisting the Head Concession
person(s) with set up/clean up
Team Picture:
- Making arrangements for
photographer to take team photo
- Distributing photos to
families
Team Trip:
- Planning and coordinating team
trip
- Making necessary transportation
arrangements
- Creating and distributing flyer
notifying parents of trip details
- Track sign up and collect
monies
Awards Night Banquet:
- Organize a fun filled night for
adults and child – i.e. food, DJ, prizes
Team Records:
- Records all swim meet times and
keeps track of personal best times and pool records
- Tracking swimmers’ best
times that qualify for team and pool records
- Maintain an updated list through
the swim season for the website
Sponsor Chairman:
- Works with local businesses to
sponsor our Swim Team
- Insure that the sponsor benefits
are received
Pep Rallies
- Planning and Coordinating social
activities for the team including Pep Rallies, Spaghetti Dinners,
Ice Cream socials etc.
Team Photographer/Historian
- Taking photographs at team
functions and meets to be used for the website as well as team
archives
- Compiling photos for team
archives
- Writing articles for the website
and/or the community newspaper
Apparel
- Assist Apparel Committee Chair
with the sale of Wahoo Wear at practices in the beginning of the
season and at home meets
